In a press conference on Thursday 2nd September 2021, the Minister of Transport, Antony Derjacques announced that as of 1st October 2021, there will be a fare increase. Commuters will pay SCR10 cashless using a travel card and SCR12 cash transactions.
Minister Derjacques said that the increase in bus fare is part of SPTC’s structural reform to help it to sustain its operations and be more viable, through being less dependent on government subsidies.
Elaborating further, the CEO of SPTC, Mr Patrick Vel said that the Agency for Social Protection (ASP) and the Ministry of Education will, through their special schemes, continue to assist their clients (workers and students). He also states that to prevent leakage onboard commuters need to take a valid ticket from the driver for every bus journey.
