How Travel Cards Work

SPTC Travel Cards are contactless smart cards that store prepaid credit or travel entitlements. When boarding a bus, passengers simply tap their card and the correct fare is applied automatically.

This system provides:

  • Faster boarding and reduced waiting times

  • Accurate fare calculation

  • Improved security compared to cash

  • Better passenger experience

  • Support for future mobile and digital ticketing

Types of SPTC Travel Cards

SPTC offers four types of travel cards to meet different commuter needs: the Student Card for school and tertiary students, the Corporate Card for employees of registered organizations, the ASP Card for government-approved social programs, and the Visitor Card for tourists and short-term travelers.

Student Card

The Student Travel Card is available to eligible students enrolled from Primary through Post-Secondary institutions.

Student cards are issued and administered by the respective educational institutions.

How it works

Students must present their valid Student Travel Card every time they board an SPTC bus for school-related travel.

The card entitles the holder to a reduced fare of SCR 2 during designated school travel periods.

Important notices

  • Students who do not present a valid card must pay the standard fare
  • A replacement fee of SCR 25 applies for lost or damaged cards
  • Students should carry their card at all times when travelling

Corporate Card

The Corporate Card is designed for private companies, ministries, and parastatal organisations that provide bus travel for their employees.

The card is managed by the employer and may be used by staff members within the organisation.

Fees

ASP Card (Agency for Social Protection)

These cards are issued and regulated through the Agency for Social Protection (ASP) for approved beneficiaries.

Parents & Workers Special Card

For parents and workers making multiple daily trips.

  • Non-transferable

  • SCR 10 deducted on first trip

  • A transfer ticket is issued for the second trip if taken within 2 hours

  • Managed by ASP

  • Unlimited travel

  • Non-transferable
